Jaffar Shah
Managing Partner & Head of Litigation
Leading the firm with a client-orientated approach and commitment to justice for all.
Jaffar Shah is the Managing Partner of Shaar Bridge Solicitors and heads the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Employment Department. As founder of the firm, Jaffar has established a reputation for providing strategic, commercially focused legal advice and robust representation in complex and high-value disputes.
With extensive experience across civil and commercial litigation, employment law, medical negligence, personal injury, wills and probate disputes, Jaffar acts for individuals, businesses, charities and organisations in a wide range of contentious matters. He is particularly recognised for handling legally and factually complex cases, often involving significant reputational, financial or regulatory issues.
Prior to establishing Shaar Bridge Solicitors, Jaffar practised at a well-regarded inner-city London law firm before becoming a Partner at a prominent regional practice. His experience in both City and regional firms has provided him with a unique perspective, combining the technical expertise expected of larger commercial practices with the practical and client-focused approach of a boutique firm.
Known for his meticulous preparation, tactical approach and persuasive advocacy, Jaffar regularly represents clients throughout all stages of litigation. He is highly regarded for his ability to analyse complex legal issues, formulate effective litigation strategies and achieve favourable outcomes both through negotiated settlement and at trial.
Civil & Commercial Litigation
Civil and commercial litigation forms the core of Jaffar’s practice. He advises businesses, directors, shareholders, professionals and private individuals on a broad range of disputes, including breach of contract claims, partnership disputes, shareholder disputes, debt recovery, professional negligence matters, property disputes, injunction applications and defamation claims.
One of Jaffar’s most notable cases involved acting for the Halal Food Authority and two of its former employees in High Court proceedings against the former Leader and Deputy Leader of Britain First. The claim concerned defamatory allegations and breaches of data protection legislation arising from the publication of videos falsely alleging links to terrorism.
Over a four-year period, Jaffar played a central role in the conduct of the litigation, including preparing court documentation, advising on strategy, managing evidence and guiding the clients through complex legal proceedings. The matter ultimately concluded successfully for the Claimants, representing a significant victory in protecting both individual reputations and the rights of organisations against defamatory and unlawful publications.
Jaffar is known for identifying practical and cost-effective solutions to disputes wherever possible, whilst remaining prepared to pursue matters vigorously through the courts where necessary.
Employment Law
Jaffar advises both employers and employees on a broad spectrum of employment law matters. His experience includes unfair dismissal claims, discrimination cases, disciplinary and grievance procedures, restrictive covenants, settlement agreements and workplace disputes.
Jaffar has assisted clients through Employment Tribunal proceedings. His balanced understanding of both employer and employee perspectives allows him to provide commercially sensible and practical advice tailored to the circumstances of each case.
Personal Injury & Medical Negligence
Jaffar has extensive experience acting for claimants in personal injury and medical negligence matters, often involving life-changing injuries and complex evidential issues.
His work includes road traffic accident claims, employers’ liability claims, public liability claims and clinical negligence cases. He has secured substantial compensation for injured clients and their families, including recently achieving a settlement of approximately £600,000 in a fatal road traffic accident claim. He has further settled a number of medical negligence matters including still birth cases and has experience of dealing with complicated inquests.
Jaffar approaches these matters with sensitivity and compassion, recognising the significant impact such events can have on clients and their families whilst ensuring that claims are pursued thoroughly and effectively.
Wills, Probate & Contentious Estates
Alongside his litigation practice, Jaffar advises clients on wills, probate and estate disputes.
